Hydrogen Membership

Why CGA?

Founded in 1913, the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) represents members from all facets of the industrial and medical gases and equipment industry in the United States and Canada.

CGA’s mission is to foster the ever-improving safe, secure, and environmentally responsible manufacture, transportation, storage, handling, and disposal of industrial, medical, and food gases and associated products.

We fulfill this mission by:

  • maintaining an extensive library of technical publications for our industry;
  • distributing safety information or warnings about gases and their containers;
  • harmonizing standards globally with other standards organizations;
  • coordinating with other industries to advance the interests of the industry;
  • providing technical advocacy and leadership in support of industry self-regulation;
  • developing training materials for use by industry participants; and
  • promoting security in the industrial and medical gas industry.

Why become a CGA Hydrogen Member?

As a CGA Hydrogen Member, you and all of the employees at your company have free access to our electronic library of hydrogen publications, which we have been publishing since 1955, voting rights on the CGA committees responsible for developing and maintaining hydrogen safety standards, and access to CGA events.

CGA is the recognized leader in the development of gas and equipment standards in North America and around the world, many of which are referenced by regulators at all levels of government. When it comes to hydrogen, we have been developing related standards for more than half a century – we published our first hydrogen safety standard in 1955.

The standards we develop are incorporated by regulators, industrial engineers, designers, and zoning bodies at the federal, state, and provincial level. We’re accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). And while we’ve historically focused on the U.S. and Canada, we have also long worked with ISO and the UN to create model regulations and harmonize standards across borders in this increasingly connected world.

CGA members lead the way in developing and maintaining safety and technical standards. As a member of CGA’s hydrogen committees, you will have an equal voice in the development of standards that promote a safer industry, no matter the size of your company. Our members also set the priority for committee work, ensuring that we’re always focused on the issues that are most important to you.

CGA seminars and webinars are designed to share information about current
best practices, learnings from incidents and near misses, and new
technologies. These events are an opportunity to share your knowledge
and learn from industry experts about practices to help make your
operations safer and more cost-effective. In addition to hosting our own
events, CGA also participates in numerous hydrogen conferences to bring
a safety perspective to the table.

Committee participation is a
great way to grow your knowledge base and your network. CGA Hydrogen
Members are eligible to participate in our Hydrogen Technology and HyCO
Committees, where you’ll meet subject matter experts from all segments
of the hydrogen economy.

On behalf of our members, CGA maintains strong relationships with key
officials so that members are given early warning regarding regulatory
and legislative developments, and an opportunity to participate in the
policy debate. We interface with numerous regulatory, state, provincial,
code, and standards bodies to support the development of safe and
effective requirements for industry.

We recognize that consistent standards are an important aspect of today’s
global marketplace. We work directly with the regional gas associations
forming the International Harmonization Council (IHC), the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the United Nations (UN) to
promote the global harmonization of industry standards.

CGA members have free access to all electronic format CGA publications and training materials, and enjoy substantial discounts on seminars,
webinars, and hardcopy publications.

CGA’s electronic training materials are available here, and a list of our live events is posted here.

CGA members receive CGANews, our biweekly newsletter, in addition regular updates on association news, industry news, and CGA events.
